Jarmond and Barclay earn Golden Eagles singles victories at No. 2 and 6
KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Marquette University women's tennis team (0-1) fell 5-2 against Western Michigan Friday afternoon.
Three Golden Eagles made their Marquette debut in the match: Aiyana Abbott, Luciana Mendoza, and Joelle Fiallo Schad.
The Broncos opened the match by claiming the doubles point, giving Western Michigan a 1-0 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles action Western Michigan scored first taking the no. 4 and 5 matches in straight set fashion.
Senior Tiera Jarmond put Marquette on the board with a straight set victory at the no. 2 position (6-2, 6-4).
The Broncos went on to take the no. 1 and 3 spots to give Western Michigan a 4-2 advantage.
Emma-Jane Barclay earned a win at the no. 6 position after rallying in three-sets (3-6, 6-3, 7-6).
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will travel to the Windy City to take on UIC on Jan. 24 then will play their first home match in the brand new Sprovieri Tennis Complex against Providence on Jan. 25 at 11:00am CT.
