WSOC Visits Villanova and Hosts the Hoyas

The Marquette University women's soccer team (6-3-4, 2-0-3 BIG EAST) continues its BIG EAST Conference road trip at Villanova (8-5-0, 3-2-0 BIG EAST) on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. CT.

The Golden Eagles then return home to Valley Fields on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. CT to take on Georgetown (10-2-2, 6-0-0 BIG EAST).

Fix Tabbed With BIG EAST Honor

Junior forward Emily Fix was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her performance in Saturday night's draw at UConn.

Fix played a key role in both Marquette goals. In the 26th minute, she drew a foul in the box that set up Megan Murray's penalty-kick equalizer. Then in the 59th minute, Fix capitalized on a scoring opportunity to net her third goal of the season and give MU a 2-1 lead.

Balanced Scoring Attack

Through 13 matches this season, 12 different Golden Eagles have scored, with eight recording two or more goals.

In October alone, Marquette has scored nine goals across three matches, with seven different players finding the back of the net.

Jocelyn Leigh leads the team with six goals, ranking tied for fourth in the BIG EAST. Since the 2020-21 campaign, only three Marquette players (Leigh, Katrina Wetherell - 5, and Tess O'Connell - 6) have recorded five-or-more goals in a single season.

BIG EAST Statistical Rankings

Through matches of Oct. 11, MU ranks third in the BIG EAST in nearly every offensive statistic. MU rankes third in goals (26), goals per game (2.00), ranks third in total shots (182), shots on goal (89), shots on goal per game (6.85)

Defensively, Marquette is in the middle of the pack ranking sixth in goals allowed per game (1.23) and ranking sixth in saves (36)

Marquette has allowed just 52 shots on frame, only 38.5 percent of the of the total attempts (135).

Series History With Villanova

Marquette's all-time series with Villanova dates back to 2006, with the Golden Eagles leading 9-3-1 record. The Wildcats took the most recent meeting, 3-0 last year, but MU has earned a win or draw in four of the last five match ups.

The teams last trip to Higgins Soccer Complex was a 1-1 draw in 2023. MU's last win at Higgins dates back to 2021.

Series History With Georgetown

Marquette's all-time series with Georgetown dates back to 2007 with the Golden Eagles holding a 3-12-1 record. MU has dropped the last ten meetings.

Marquette's last victory over the Hoyas came in 2013, a 4-0 shutout that marked the grand opening of Valley Fields and upset then No. 6 Georgetown.
