On the singles side Aiyana Abbott recorded two wins, a 7-5, 7-6 win over Laura Tapia followed by a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sergieva. Elena Duva defeated Xingtong Jiang 4-6, 6-4, 13-11. Barnstedt posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Tapia, and Poon recorded a 6-2,6-1 win over Anna Mancino.
MU coach Brett Barnett on the past weekend:
"I felt like the team competed very hard all weekend at Western Michigan. I was very happy with how Aiyana played in all her singles matches. Â She was close to going 3-0 and did a nice job playing smart tennis and with a ton of energy all weekend. Â Our freshman doubles team of Maria and Elise going 2-1 was great to so see as well. Â They did a great job setting each other up and returned very aggressively all tournament. We've made some good strides as a team this whole fall. Â Everyone has shown me they compete very well and we're putting ourselves in great positions to win nearly every match. Â We can definitely execute better in the end of sets but that will come. Everyone has improved so much in a short period of time, and I'm excited for dual match season this spring."
