Golden Eagles travel to No. 8 Michigan on Sunday
CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Marquette University women's lacrosse team moved to 3-0 on the season with a 15-9 win at Cincinnati on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles (3-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) were led by Hanna Bodner and Tess Osburn, who each recorded hat tricks.
Cincinnati scored ten seconds into the game before Marquette scored four unanswered in the first quarter. Mary Velner scored her second career goal with three seconds left to give Marquette a 6-3 advantage after one.
The Bearcats got the game within four goals twice in the third quarter but MU answered at the other end both times. Cincinnati made it a 12-8 game early in the fourth but Hanna Bodner scored a minute later. Meg Bireley sealed the win with her third goal of the game with 45 seconds remaining.
Mikayla Yang earned her first start of the season and seventh of her career. The sophomore saved all six Cincinnati free position attempts she faced and had a career-high nine saves.
Cincinnati (1-3, 0-0 AAC) was led by Lauren Ottensmeyer, who had three goals and one assist.
