The Golden Eagles are coming off a win at BIG EAST Match Play on Feb. 3-4 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, and are searching for their second stroke-play tournament win of the year. In match play, Johan Widal, Ryan Banas and Vincent Cervantes each won all three of their contests and Widal earned the first BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week honor of his career for his efforts.
Senior Patrick Adler was ranked 40th nationally in the Scoreboard college golf rankings during the fall season. He won medalist honors at both the Windon Memorial Classic and RedHawk Intercollegiate and boasts a career-best 70.53 scoring average (-0.67 strokes per round) to lead the team.
Fellow senior Max Lyons makes his fourth appearance in the event and owns previous success in Puerto Rico. Lyons led the team with a 9-under 207 last spring and holds the Marquette freshman record for total strokes and score versus par in an event, finishing with an 11-under 205 as a freshman in 2022.
Widal earned BIG EAST Male Golfer of the Week after winning all three of his match play contests earlier this week and not reaching the 17th hole in any match. He took down Vibjav Alokam from Villanova, 3&2, Leo Zurovac of Butler, 3&2, and Bradley Sawka from UConn, 4&2.
Adler, Lyons and Schmidtke each competed as part of MU's lineup in the event last spring.
