
#MUWBB Defeats Tulsa 61-60 at Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic

MORAGA, California — The Marquette University women's basketball team finished the Saint Mary's Thanksgiving Classic unbeaten after defeating Tulsa 61-60 on Saturday afternoon. Isabelle Spingola hit the game-winning free throws with nine seconds remaining to give MU the one-point victory.

Camryn Taylor recorded 15 points and seven rebounds for the Golden Eagles, which were both team-highs. Lauren Van Kleunen had 11 points while Selena Lott joined them in double figures with 10. Lott also added a team-high five assists.

After being outscored 20-14 in the first quarter, the Golden Eagles clamped down on defense in quarter number two, holding TU to just 2/15 (13.3 percent) shooting to head into halftime with a 31-27 lead.

For the final 20 minutes, the two teams traded blows, exchanging leads seven different times. Tulsa went up 60-59 with a jumper by Kendarian Elliot with 41 seconds to play. MU took the lead back with 10 seconds left after Isabelle Spingola hit two free throws after being fouled near the basket.

The Golden Hurricanes had a chance to take the lead with two seconds left when forward Alexis Gaulden was fouled by Lauren Van Kleunen going up for a shot. However, she missed both free throws and MU was able to run out the rest of the clock to win by one point.

Tulsa had three players score in double figures, with Eliiott leading the way with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. Maddie Bittle had 16 points while Rebecca Lescay chipped in 10.

The Golden Eagles shot 25/57 (43.9 percent) from the field while TU shot 22/54 (40.7 percent).
