The Golden Eagles return to action against No. 11 Ohio State on March 2 in Dallas
MILWAUKEE - Junior Peter Henkhaus scored a career-best five goals but the Marquette University men's lacrosse team's second half rally fell short in a 15-12 loss to Detroit Mercy at Valley Fields on Saturday afternoon.Â
The Golden Eagles (2-1) fell behind 6-1 early in the second quarter and trailed 7-3 at the half. The Titans then tallied the first four goals of the second half and eventually built their lead to nine, 13-4, with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter.
Marquette went just 11-of-30 at the faceoff dot, and was out-gained 32-27 in ground balls on the afternoon.Â
Detroit Mercy's Logan Shamblin made 11 saves in net while facing a MU program-record 51 shots. Brett Erskine led the Titans with four goals, while Cam Kostus and Matthew Vangalen each had hat tricks
The loss was MU's first in seven meetings all-time against the Titans.
The Golden Eagles are back in action on Saturday, March 2 against No. 11 Ohio State at the Patriot Cup in Dallas, Texas.
