No. 1 Marquette Tops St. John’s, 88-57, Advancing to BIG EAST Semifinals

Hiedeman’s double-double leads four Golden Eagles in double digits
CHICAGO--The top seeded Marquette women's basketball team wasted no time in the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament presented by Jeep and cruised to an 88-57 victory over No. 9 St. John's on Sunday afternoon in the quarterfinal round. The margin of victory was the largest for the Golden Eagles in the league tourney.
BIG EAST Player of the Year Natisha Hiedeman led Marquette (25-6) with a game-high 20 points and a double-double with 13 boards, her fifth double-double output this season. Also in double figures for the Golden Eagles was Allazia Blockton with 17 points, 15 scored in the second half, as Amani Wilborn and Lauren Van Kleunen added 13 points and 11, respectively. Every Golden Eagles that played scored at least two points.
Marquette was dominant down low scoring 48 points in the paint, also picking up 17 points off of fast break attempts. The Golden Eagles connected on 50 percent (35-70) of their shots from the floor, which marks the 14th game this season shooting 50 percent or better.
St. John's (15-16) was one of just three teams that Marquette lost to in league play this year and the Golden Eagles held the Red Storm to just 32.8 percent shooting, including a 21-9 advantage in the second quarter, which helped push the lead in MU's favor.
Marquette will face No. 4 Georgetown in the BIG EAST Tournament semifinals on Monday, March 11. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. CT on FS1.
