DALLAS – Freshman Josh Robinson and sophomore Tyler Leach each shot a 2-under-par 69 on Monday and the Marquette University men's golf team is tied for 11th at the Trinity Forest Invitational.
Robinson (73-69—142) leads the Golden Eagles at even par through 36 holes and is tied for 27th place. The native of Lisburn, Northern Ireland posted two birdies and a bogey on both the front and back nine for the Golden Eagles, who began their day on hole No. 10.
Leach recorded a team-high seven birdies and began the day with three pars and three birdies on his first six holes. After a double bogey on No. 16, he notched bogeys on 1, 2 and 4 after making the turn but ended his day with four straight birdies on holes 5-8. The Spring Valley, Wisconsin native sits in a tie for 34th at 1-over par (74-69—143) for the tournament and sits three strokes ahead of Hunter Eichhorn (73-73—146) and Matt Murlick (74-72—146) entering Tuesday's final round.
Freshman Bhoom Sima Aree (73-74—147) shot 1-under par on his final nine holes Monday and is tied for 63rd. He was even on the day through six holes before a pair of double bogeys on No. 16 and 18 at the end of his first nine.
Tournament-host Southern Methodist University and Arizona State lead the field at 16-under par (279-268—547).
The par-71 championship course at Trinity Hills Golf Club, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, plays at 7,486 yards and is the home of the PGA Tour's AT&T Byron Nelson Championship.
THE EVENT
The 16-team field features Arizona State, Houston, Kansas State, Mississippi State, Rice and Virginia in addition to SMU and Marquette.
Marquette begins Tuesday's final round with Sima-Aree on the 10th tee at 8:05 a.m. Central time and Robinson rounds out the MU contingent at 8:41 a.m. The Golden Eagles are paired with Kansas State and UTSA.
