Women's Tennis Closes IU Winter Invite

Dual play begins on Jan. 25
BLOOMINGTON, Ind.-- The Marquette women's tennis team closed out its first competition of the spring season on Monday at the IU Winter Invitational and looks ahead to dual play, which begins on Jan. 25.
On Sunday, the Golden Eagles took three doubles wins with Elizabeth Ferdman and newcomer Tiana Windbuchler, Natalija Popovic and WindbuchlerĀ and the pair of Giulia Turconi and Elisabeth Desmarais.Ā
Desmarais battled to three sets against the host Hooisers and picked up a singles win with Milica NovakovicĀ also battling to a three-set win over Marshall. In the third singles win of the day Windbuchler topped Marshall, 6-3, 6-4.
Monday's action was full of doubles and Marquette won six of seven matches. Popovic and Fleur Eggink topped IU, with a 6-0 sweep and followed that with a 6-4 victory over Marshall.Ā
Lesley Foe and Elizabeth FerdmanĀ defeated Wright State and swept NIU, 6-0 and Desmarais and Isabella Franks earned a 6-4 win over NIU as well as a 6-2 decision over Marshall.Ā Ā
Marquette will host UIC on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 9:30 a.m. CT, followed by Green Bay at 3 p.m. CT at the Helfaer Tennis Stadium.
