MU Track & Field Set to Compete at Black & Gold Invitational

Two-day meet begins Friday afternoon at 2:35 p.m.
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field teams head to Iowa City, Iowa to compete at the Black & Gold Invitational on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Hawkeye Tennis & Rec Complex.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 2:35 p.m. Central time with the 60-meter hurdles. The track events will all take place on Friday in addition to the weight throw, which begins at 3 p.m. CT. The field events will take place on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. with the shot put.

MU competed at the Notre Dame Invitational last weekend and both teams placed fifth. The highlight of the day for the men's team was in the 4x400m relay, where the team of Joe Keys, Zachariah Murray, Sam Sagan and Julian Wright took first place with a time of 3:16.31, the No. 3 mark all-time in MU history.

On the women's side, the 4x400 relay team of Emma Moravec, Arianna Mansavage, Breanne Marchan and Juru Okwaramoi took second place with a time of 3:51.45. Jefferson Osunkwo (triple jump), Juru Okwaramoi (60-meter hurdles) and Madison Marko (60-meter hurdles) hit PR's and top-10 all-time marks with their performances.

LAST YEAR AT IOWA:
The Golden Eagles captured five event victories with sweeps in the men's and women's 800 (Emma Moravec and Alec Miller) and mile (Mary Hanson and Brad Eagan), while Daniel Armstrong took home top honors in the high jump with a leap of 2.15 meters (7-0.5 feet).

On the women's side, senior Mary Hanson won the mile in a time of 4:58.36 and sophomore Emma Moravec captured the women's 800-meter dash in a time of 2:14.01. Breanne Marchan recorded a 200-meter dash time of 24.98 seconds to move her from ninth in program history to third. She placed fourth in the race.

For the men, hurdler Ben Konopka broke a 19-year old Marquette University freshman record in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.23, making him the second-fastest to ever run the 60 hurdles at MU, trailing only Nic Wucherer, whose freshman record he broke.

2020 SEASON NOTABLES:
Most of the men's and women's teams will participate in the Windy City Classic at Chicago State from Feb. 7-8. A few student-athletes will also participate in the Parkside Classic, which takes place on Saturday, Feb. 8.

2020 SEASON NOTABLES:
- 2019 Second Team All-American Daniel Armstrong started his senior season off with a bang after finishing in first place in the high jump Dec. 6 at Notre Dame with a height of 2.16 meters/7 feet, 1 inch.
- Cameron Jemison hit the No. 7 all-time mark in program history in the pole vault with a height of 4.65 meters/15 feet, 3 inches in the first meet of the season.
- Zachariah Murray (400 meters) ran the No. 8 fastest 400m (49.0) all-time in school history.
- Julian Wright (200 meters) won his race at Notre Dame and hit the No. 9 mark all-time (22.22) in school history.
- Mila Puseljic (triple jump) began her Golden Eagle career with a first-place finish (11.18 meters/36 feet, 8.25 inches) on Dec. 6.
- Arianna Mansavage earned runner-up honors in the 400-meter with a time of 56.99. Her time also put her at No. 6 all-time at MU in school history.
- Sophomore thrower Lizzy Cagle improved on her previous personal best in the weight throw by over 10 feet to take fifth place at Notre Dame on Dec. 6.
- Joe Keys won the 60-meter hurdles at Milwaukee with a new PR of 8.25 (T-3rd all-time).
- Samuel Johnson (6.80) and Julian Wright (6.82) broke the school record in the 60-meter dash on their way to first and second place finishes (record was 6.84 by Josh Word). Daniel Bendel (6.86), who came in third, moves up to No. 4 in school history.
- Julie Clayton set school and facility records with her latest PR in the pole vault (Jan. 18), winning the event with a height of 3.93 m/12-10.72 ft.
- Allie Flando took home wins in both the shot put (13.66 m/44-9.80 ft) and weight throw (17.33 m/56-10.25 ft) at the John Tierney Classic (Jan. 18).
- Mary Hanson (4:59.10) won the mile on Jan. 18 while Kate Jochims (5:04.37) and Caitlin McGauley (5:05.00) finished third and fourth, each setting PR's.
- Jefferson Osunkwo's triple jump of 13.90m/45-7.25 feet (Jan. 25) is a personal record and the No. 9 mark all-time at MU.Â
- Juru Okwaramoi's 60-meter hurdles time of 9.05 (Jan. 25) is No. 7 all-time at MU.Â
- Madison Marko's time of 9.15 in the 60-meter hurdles (Jan. 25) is No. 10 all-time.
