MILWAUKEE - Dawson Garcia scored 16 points and pulled down eight rebounds Friday night as Marquette (2-0) defeated Eastern Illinois 75-50.

Redshirt senior Koby McEwen (14), sophomore transfer D.J. Carton (13) and freshman forward Justin Lewis (10) all tallied double digits.

The Marquette defense held the Panthers to a 26.2% field goal percentage and allowed just seven made three-pointers.

The Golden Eagles now lead the all-time series, 3-0. Friday's matchup was the first since an MU overtime victory in 2017.

Notables:

In the last meeting, exactly three years ago today, Jamal Cain posted five points and four rebounds in an 86-83 win, while Greg Elliott contributed across the board with seven points, three rebounds, four blocks and four steals.
EIU began the season Wednesday in Madison against the University of Wisconsin, losing 77-67. MU faces UW in Milwaukee on Friday, Dec. 4.
Dawson Garcia had 12 points in the first half, shooting 66.7% from the field and 75% from beyond the arc.
After pacing his squad with 19 points on Wednesday, Garcia once again led the team in scoring with 16 points.
Theo John put up nine points and a team-high nine rebounds, coming within one point and rebound of his first back-to-back double-double.
John attempted and made his first three-pointer in his MU career early in the first half.
Freshman big man Justin Lewis also buried his first career 3-point attempt in the first half.
Sophomore guard Symir Torrence dished out a career-high six assists.
In his second game at MU, Ohio State transfer D.J. Carton totaled 13 points, seven rebounds and four assists.
Senior forward Jamal Cain contributed six points and seven rebounds in 21 minutes.
Eight players appeared in the scoring column for the Golden Eagles.
MU committed more turnovers than the Panthers, giving the ball away 15 times.
Josiah Wallace led Eastern Illinois with 15 points while Mack Smith added 12.
