Golden Eagles conclude regular season with two home matches
The Marquette University women's soccer team (8-7-0, 4-4-0 BIG EAST) dropped a 3-1 decision at first-place Xavier (14-1-1, 7-1-0 BIG EAST) Sunday afternoon in league action on the road.
Marquette's offensive attack got off to a slow start, collecting just a pair of shots, both on goal in the first half. Freshman Maggie Starker had the best opportunity, but her shot was saved by the diving Musketeer keeper.
Trailing 2-0 in the 53rd minute, Alexa Maletis collected her second goal of the campaign after a scramble in the box. Xavier, however, was able to re-claim the two-goal advantage in the 56th minute.
MU finished the match with seven shots, five on goal, and netminder Mikki Easter made seven saves.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles host nationally ranked Georgetown at 7 p.m. CT on Thursday, Oct. 21 at Valley Fields.
