MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University men's basketball team defeated the Bowie State Bulldogs, 98-40, at Fiserv Forum on Thursday in the team's lone exhibition of the preseason at Fiserv Forum.
Guard Tyler Kolek paced MU with 15 points and seven assists. Kur Kuath contributed a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and forward Justin Lewis totaled 13 points and seven rebounds.
Ten players scored in the contest for MU, including five players in double digits.
Marquette shot 43.2% from the field and made 13 3-pointers in the matchup.Â
Notables:
- Nine players played their first game in a Golden Eagle uniform: Cameron Brown, Emarion Ellis, Kam Jones, David Joplin, Tyler Kolek, Kur Kuath, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, Stevie Mitchell and Darryl Morsell.
- After both teams scored their first points, MU went on a 14-0 run in under five minutes to take a 17-2 lead.
- Marquette started the game 4-for-5 on three pointers, with Justin Lewis (2), Morsell and Maxence-Prosper each connecting.
- MU's defense forced 25 turnovers in the game. In the first half alone, the Golden Eagles caused 16 turnovers and converted 20 points off TOs.
- Kuath, a graduate transfer from Oklahoma and originally from South Sudan, collected four blocks in his 15 minutes.
- Kolek, a transfer from George Mason, shot 5-for-8 from beyond the arc, with each of his 15 points coming from three.
- Freshmen Kam Jones (13) and Stevie Mitchell (10) each scored in double digits, with the two guards also generating seven combined steals.
- Forward Oso Ighodaro earned eight free throws, converting seven of his attempts from the line.
- Marquette won the rebounding battle, 56-37, pulling down 17 offensive and 39 defensive boards.Â
- The Golden Eagles held the Bulldogs to just 15% from beyond the arc, just three makes in 20 attempts.
- For Bowie State, Quinton Drayton led with eight points, while eight others appeared in the points column.
