INDIANAPOLIS - The Marquette University women's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season on Thursday afternoon against Butler, 1-0, at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl in Indianapolis.
"I first want to acknowledge how amazing these women are, they take every challenge and turn it into an opportunity," head coach Frank Pelaez said. "Every coach knows how difficult all road games are, today Marquette women's soccer got better. The amount of fight they showed to play for one another was very apparent. We will look forward to our next practice."
Claire Farrington's 84th-minute goal off a corner kick propelled the Bulldogs (5-0-0, 2-0-0 BIG EAST) to their fifth win of the year, while the Golden Eagles (3-1-0, 1-1-0 BIG EAST) dropped their first contest in 2021.
Marquette was out-shot 21-5 in the match and freshman goalkeeper Lauren Schill made four saves while allowing just the first goal against of her collegiate career.Â
The Bulldogs' lone goal came off their fourth won corner of the match on a counter to a Marquette push.
Schill made three saves in the first half, including all three on frame out of the 14 total shots from the Bulldogs.
The Golden Eagles have a week off until their next match on Thursday, March 18 against Xavier at Valley Fields.Â
