Golden Eagles to honor Maggie Lena in pregame ceremony
The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-3-0, 3-3-0 BIG EAST) wraps up the home portion of its season on Thursday, March 28 at 12 p.m. CT against Creighton (2-4-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST) at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles remain in second place in the Midwest Division of the BIG EAST Conference and in the hunt for a bid to the league tourney. Â The top-two finishers in each division will compete for the title in Providence, R.I. on April 16-18.
Prior to Thursday's match, Marquette will honor senior Maggie Lena (Santa Monica, Calif./Santa Monica HS). Â A three-year letterwinner, Lena has appeared in 16 career matches and collected her first career assist earlier this season against DePaul. Â Lena has also been heavily involved in the Marquette community throughout her career, including serving as Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Â A member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, she will graduate this spring with a degree in biomedical sciences, with a minor in biology.Â
Ten different players have found the back of the net this season for Marquette, with Elsi Twombly and Kylie Sprecher leading the way with three goals each. Â Twombly is the squad's point leader with seven, courtesy of her most recent assist in the win over DePaul on March 25.
Freshman Lauren Schill continues to see a majority of the action in net for MU and is ranked among the league leaders in saves per game (3rd, 4.33 spg.).
