MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's lacrosse team heads to Queens, New York for its final regular season game against St. John's at DaSilva Memorial Field on Friday morning.
Opening face-off is set for 11 a.m. Central time and the game will air live on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app. Live statistics will also be available.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a 19-8 loss at No. 18 Villanova on April 24 and are in search of their third BIG EAST Conference victory. Marquette previously defeated St. John's and Providence and is looking for the season sweep of the Red Storm. The Golden Eagles can tie the Friars for fourth in the conference with their third victory but will lose the tiebreaker and the berth into the league semifinals, thanks to PC's +3 goal differential in head-to-head matchups.
Redshirt freshman Devon Cowan leads Marquette with 26 goals and 34 points through 11 games, while redshirt junior attackman Griffin Fleming has 18 goals and a team-high 12 assists for 30 points.
Sean Richard has been MU's goalie of record in eight of the 11 games this season and posts a .553 save percentage, which ranks third in the BIG EAST among primary starters.
The Red Storm is 1-9 on the year with a 19-18 win over Hofstra in its season opener on Feb. 13 on Long Island. SJU has lost all nine conference games it has played since then and failed to reach double digit goals in all but one game. The Red Storm have been outscored by an average of 11 goals per game in the nine BIG EAST losses and is coming off a 19-11 loss at Denver on April 24.
Jonathan Huber leads SJU with 21 goals and 27 points, while Joe and Mike Madsen have each reached 20 points on the year. Joe Madsen has 15 goals and a team-high eight assists, while Mike has 13 scores.
St. John's was on a COVID pause when it was slated to face the Golden Eagles on March 20, the date this game was originally scheduled.
Marquette is 7-1 all-time against the Red Storm and has won each of the last seven meetings, including a 9-8 overtime win earlier this season on April 14 at Valley Fields. The last game played in Queens resulted in a Marquette 11-10 overtime win on April 7, 2018.
