All-Time Series Provides Plenty Of Highlights
  Â
The all-time series between Marquette and Providence consists of 33 games (Marquette leads 21-12) and includes a number of memorable contests for MU fans.
  Â
The two programs first met in the 1963 National Invitation Tournament and the result was a 70-64 victory by PC. Â The teams would cross paths four years later in the same event and a slim 81-80 Marquette overtime win helped the squad to a runner-up finish under head coach Al McGuire. Â
  Â
Since the teams began meeting in BIG EAST action, series highlights include a game delayed at the Bradley Center when a bat continued to interrupt play on the court, a wet court at PC in 2016-17 that caused numerous stoppages in play, a league record-tying 52-point performance by Markus Howard in 2017-18 at Providence and multiple overtime results.
Lewis Named BIG EAST Player of the Week
  Â
Fresh off his first-career BIG EAST Player of the Week accolade (Jan. 23), forward Justin Lewis continued to elevate his play with a career-best performance in the win at Seton Hall.
Lewis finished with a personal-high 33 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the floor, including a 4-of-7 effort from behind the 3-point line.  He also dished out a career-best six assists and was responsible for three steals, a new personal single-game high.
  Â
Lewis is the first Marquette player to reach 30 points since former guard Markus Howard did it in the 2019-20 regular-season finale at St. John's. Â Lewis is the 36th player since 1963-64 to reach the mark. Howard netted 30-or-more points 29 times during his career.Â
  Â
In the last three outings, he averaged 24.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting 53.1 percent (26-of-49) from the field overall and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from behind the 3-point line.
  Â
Lewis led the Golden Eagles to a 57-54 victory at Villanova and a 75-64 win against Xavier en route to player of the week honors. At Villanova, Lewis' 3-pointer with 11.9 seconds left was the game-winning basket (team-high 21 points). Â In the triumph over XU, Lewis posted game highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds (fifth double-double of 2021-22).Â
