
Evangelio Takes Third at Cal Poly Invitational

Marquette takes fifth place as a team
CARMEL BY THE SEA, California – The Marquette University men's golf team finished 2-under par (278-288-296—862) in the Cal Poly Invitational at The Preserve Golf Course to take fifth place.
Starting on hole No. 4, Nicolás Evangelio started his final round strong birding four of his first five holes of the day. Evangelio would find his fifth birdie of the day on the par-5 13th. He would go on to give two strokes back with a double bogey on No. 1 but would par the final two holes to finish the tournament at 8-under par to take third place. Evangelio's 54-hole score of 208 (68-71-69) ties his career-best 54-hole score and records the best individual finish of his career.
Senior Tyler Leach finished the tournament tied for ninth individually with a three-round score of 3-under par (69-69-75—213). Leach was steady throughout the tournament leading the entire field in pars made with 39. Leach now has eight rounds of par or better and four rounds in the 60s this season.
Bhoom Sima-Aree finished second in par-5 scoring for the tournament playing them 8-under par with a scoring average of 4.33. Sima-Aree tied for 50th at 8-over par (75-73-76—224)
36th-ranked Ohio State took home the win at 19-under par (280-277-288—845).
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles will resume the 2022-23 campaign on Feb. 12-14 with the Puerto Rico Classic hosted by Purdue the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
