
Golf Heads to Puerto Rico Classic

MU competes in the first tournament of 2023
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team resumes the 2023 season Sunday, Feb. 12 at the Puerto Rico Classic.
THE EVENT
Purdue will be hosting 12 teams in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico for the 30th Puerto Rico Classic. Along with Marquette and Purdue, the College of Charleston, East Tennessee State, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wisconsin, and Ohio State will be competing.
Tennessee (9th), Oklahoma (16th), Ohio State (24th), Purdue (28th), Â Georgia (31st), East Tennessee State (42nd), Marquette (45th) and Ole Miss (44th) are ranked inside Golfstat's top 50.
Teams will play three rounds over three days from Feb. 12-14. Round one will be a shotgun start beginning at 6:30 a.m. CT. Live scoring for each round will be available through Golfstat.
 THE COURSE
The Grand Reserve Country Club will host the Puerto Rico Classic for the second year in a row.
The course is designed by PGA Tour professional, Tom Kite, which measures 7,506 yards and plays as a par 72. The Grand Reserve stretches along the beachfront with the El Yunque rainforest as a backdrop.
The Grand Reserve is also the host site of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open. The Puerto Rico Open is slated to follow the Puerto Rico Classic at the end of February.
THE LINEUP
Lineup: Tyler Leach, Max Lyons, Nicolás Evangelio, Bhoom Sima-Aree, Josh Robinson
Individual: Patrick Adler
MU heads into the Puerto Rico Classic with the same lineup they concluded the fall schedule with at the Cal Poly Invitational. This will be the sixth tournament of the season for all five Golden Eagles in the lineup.
Nicolás Evangelio ended the fall season with one of the best performances of his collegiate career. He tied his career-low 54-hole score with an 8-under par 208 (68-71-69) and posted the best individual finish of his career, taking third place.
Marquette's No. 1, Tyler Leach comes into the event leading the Golden Eagles in scoring average at 71.43. Leach also holds the low round of the season with a 4-under par 66 that he posted back in October at Evanston Golf Club.
Leach finished second for Marquette, ninth overall, at Cal Poly with a three-round score of 3-under par (69-69-75—213).
Patrick Adler returns to action for MU, making his fifth appearance of the season. Adler last competed in the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club.
