Golden Eagles conclude four-game homestand
The Marquette University men's basketball team (6-3, 0-0 BIG EAST) wraps up its four-game homestand Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. CT when the team hosts N.C. Central (5-4, 0-0 MEAC) at Fiserv Forum. FS1 features the television coverage, with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and LaVall Jordan (analyst) calling the action. Following Tuesday's outing, the Golden Eagles travel to Notre Dame on Dec. 11 in the first matchup of a home-and-home series with the Fighting Irish.
Marquette Claimed Lone Meeting With Eagles
The Golden Eagles and N.C. Central have met on just one occasion previously, with Marquette claiming a 75-66 win on Dec. 29, 2012 in the Bradley Center.
Guard Junior Cadougan and Vander Blue each scored 16 points to lead the way in the non-conference finale and Marquette would eventually cap the 2012-13 campaign with a run to the Elite Eight.
Kam Jones Scores Another Career Night
Sophomore guard Kam Jones, who was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, collected back-to-back career-best scoring games last week.
The Memphis, Tennessee, native opened the week with a 20-point effort in the win over No. 6/10 Baylor and followed that up with a 26-point night against Wisconsin (led all scorers).
In the two outings, Jones averaged 23.0 points per game and combined to shoot 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the floor overall and 8-of-13 (61.5 percent) from behind the 3-point line. He also knocked down 8-of-10 shots from the charity stripe and chipped in 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per outing.
For the season, Jones is ranked 12th in the BIG EAST in scoring (15.4 ppg.) and has already surpassed his free throw totals from 2021-22. Jones was 11-of-18 from the line last season and is 16-of-20 through nine games in 2022-23.
Ross Continues To Contribute At Both Ends
Freshman guard Chase Ross has seen increased action in recent outings, contributing at both ends of the court.
He has scored eight points in three of the last four outings, combining to shoot 9-of-16 (56.3 percent) from the floor. He knocked down each of his three shots against Wisconsin in the first half, including a pair of treys.
In the win over No. 6/10 Baylor, Ross was responsible for four of the Bears' 20 turnovers with a personal-best four steals.
