Track & field concludes meets at Notre Dame and Parkside
NOTRE DAME, INDIANA – The Marquette University men's and women's track and field team completed their pair of weekend meets Saturday afternoon. MU sent representatives to both Notre Dame and UW-Parkside.
"Overall, it was a pretty good meet out here this weekend achieving some personal and season bests." Head coach Bert Rogers said. "On the distance side, we were able to run some pretty good times and hit a lot of PRs. "
Notre Dame played host to the Meyo Invitational at Loftus Sports Center Friday and Saturday. On the men's side, Dan Weizeorick received runner-up honors in the 3000-meter and achieved a personal best 8:21.62. Weizeorick's time puts him at No. 7 all-time in Marquette history. David Zeller also achieved a PR in the 3000-meter finishing at 8:25.52.
The personal bests continued to be a theme for the distance runners at the Meyo Invitational. In the mile, Sophomore Patrick Hetlage achieved a PR of 4:13.58. Cade Ferron finished the 800-meter in a personal best of 1:54.05. Sophomore Greg Van Hollen finished the 600-meter with a PR of 1:22.37.
On the women's side, Kendall Pfrimmer and Kate Jochims both achieved personal bests in the 3000-meter. Pfrimmer finished in ninth with a time of 9.44.94. Jochims shortly followed finishing with a personal best of 9:50.68.
PARKSIDE CLASSIC
Saturday afternoon, other members of the men's and women's track and field teams competed at UW-Parkside in the Parkside classic. The Golden Eagles achieved multiple PRs and victories at Petretti Fieldhouse.
In the women's long jump, MU claimed the top four spots in the event. Valerie Nzeakor took first jumping 5.10 meters/16 feet, 8.75 inches. Madison Miller (5.09 meters/16 feet, 8.5 inches), Kaylee Hopp, and Aja Bradshaw (5.07 meters/16 meters, 7.75 inches) filled out the rest of the top four spots. Hopp achieved a personal best 5.07meters/16 feet, 7.75 inches in her route to third place. Hopp would also go on to win the triple jump with a PR 11.48 meters/37 feet, 8 inches.
Success continued for the women jumpers in the high jump sweeping the top three spots. Emma Ludwig took home the victory with 1.55 meters/5 feet, 1 inch. Annika Bynum received runner-up honors with 1.55 meters/ 5 feet, 1 inch. Claudia Millan completed the sweep coming in third with 1.50 meters/4 feet, 11 inches.
In the other women's field events, Mikayla Wise won both the shot put (11.85 meters/38 feet, 10.5 inches) and the weight throw. Wise achieved a personal best in the weight throw with 13.42 meters/44 feet, 0.5 inches. Kaitlyn Huebner took second in the pole vault with a PR of 3.3 meters/10 feet, 10 inches.
On the track, Laurel Moneysmith, Emily Foley (10:25.98) and Mallory Lafever swept the top three spots in the 3000-meter. In her first-place finish, Moneysmith set a PR of 10:22.44. Lafever achieved a PR as well with 10:28.85.
For the men, Renfei Chang took the gold in the 55-meter hurdles with a PR 8.35. Daniel Bendel achieved a personal best as well in the 55-meter with a 6.60 while recording a second-place finish. Sophomore Jadon Conroy also found a new personal best in the 3000-meter with 8:50.44. Conroy finished in second place.
Freshman Trey Baskin took home the silver medal in the men's weight throw with a throw of 16.91 meters/55 feet, 5.75 inches. Baskin's throw helped him surpass his previous bench mark for a new personal best.
"It was another good weekend of meets as we continue to move forward through the season."

Next weekend the team will be making the trip to Allendale, Michigan to compete in the Grand Valley State Big Meet.
