Golden Eagles find themselves in 15-team field
Live Scoring
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team will continue its spring season on March 28-29 as it travels to Palm City, Florida, for the Valspar Collegiate at the Floridian Golf Club.
Â
THE EVENT
The Golden Eagles find themselves in a 15-team field alongside Arizona State, Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio State, Pepperdine, South Florida, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, USC, Wake Forest and tournament-host Houston.
Â
MU will play 36 holes on Monday with an 7:30 a.m. Central time shotgun start. Tuesday's third and final round will also feature a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
Â
Marquette placed 11th at 36-over par in its most recent appearance in the event in 2021.
Â
THE COURSE
Designed and constructed by Gary Player, the 18-hole, par-71 course plays at 7,114 yards and features rolling fairways and greens, challenging hazards, scenic views of the St. Lucie River and a variety of natural preserves and native wildlife.
Â
The course was re-designed in 2011 by Tom Fazio as part of a redevelopment effort under the direction of Jim Crane, who bought the course from Wayne Huizenga in 2011. Huizenga either owned or co-owned Blockbuster, the Miami Dolphins, Florida Panthers and Florida Marlins.
Â
Two of the most notable holes are the ninth and 18th, which emphasize The Floridian's waterside setting.
Â
THE LINEUP
Nos. 1-5: Hunter Eichhorn, Max Lyons, Nicolas Evangelio, Tyler Leach, Josh Robinson
INDIVIDUAL: Patrick Adler
Â
Eichhorn is coming off an 8-under 205 (69-70-66) performance in the Bash at the Beach that placed him tied for third. The graduate student had a stellar finish, posting a 5-under par in the third round thanks to six birdies.
Â
Evangelio followed closely behind Eichhorn with a 5-under par to tie for 13th after shooting a team-best 8-under (63) in the final round of action. The single round score and 54-hole event score both marked career bests for the redshirt junior.
Â
Leach finished tied for 24th through three rounds after shooting 3-under 210 (72-69-69), and Robinson finished tied for 27th at 2-under par (69-70-72).
Â
Adler also golfed as an individual at Bash at the Beach and shot even-par to finish tied for 38th.
Â
UP NEXT
The Golden Eagles will be back in action on April 3-5 when they travel to Naples, Florida, for the Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club.
