Golf ties for eighth at The Calusa Cup

NAPLES, Florida – Hunter Eichhorn of the Marquette University men's golf team jumped 11 spots up the individual leaderboard at Calusa Pines Golf Club for the 20th top-10 finish of his career in Tuesday's final round at The Calusa Cup .

The Golden Eagles tied with tournament-host Iowa for eighth at 33-over-par (292-310-295--897), while Eichhorn tied for ninth individually with a 1-over 217 (71-76-70). The graduate student shot a 2-under 70 on Tuesday in a third round that included five birdies and a pair of bogeys. The native of Carney, Michigan notched his fifth top-10 finish this season and jumped up the individual list after a 4-over 76 in the second round.

Marquette concluded the second round on Tuesday morning after a pair of weather delays halted play on Monday with the Golden Eagles finishing up on the back nine. Eichhorn's 76 was MU's low round in the second.

Redshirt junior Tyler Leach wrapped up his first top-20 finish of the season with a 1-under 71 in Tuesday's third round. He began the round with birdies on the first three holes and was 5-under after a birdie on the par-4 10th hole. Leach finished the tournament in a tie for 19th place at 6-over (74-77-71--222).

MU sat seventh as a team after Sunday's first round at 4-over-par (292), three strokes ahead of Iowa and four strokes in front of No. 21 Clemson. Marquette made up nine strokes on Iowa in the final round to tie the Hawkeyes.

The nine-team event featured seven ranked teams and was won by No. 11 Georgia Tech at 7-under, seven strokes in front of No. 16 Florida and 11 ahead of No. 19 Wake Forest.

The Golden Eagles return to action on April 18-19 in the Wildcat Spring Invitational, hosted by Villanova at Radnor Valley Country Club. That event is MU's final prior to the BIG EAST Championships on April 25-27.
