Golden Eagles wrap up non-conference play, will return home to face Butler on Friday
SAINT LOUIS, Mo. — The Marquette men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-1 BIG EAST) wrapped up the non-conference portion of its 2022 campaign with a 2-1 loss to Saint Louis Tuesday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
In a match which began as a defensive battle, the Marquette back line excelled early on. Saint Louis was held to just two total shots through the first 45 minutes, not registering its first shot until 31 minutes into the match.Â
The Billikens began the second half on a strong note, scoring just three minutes into the half with a 48th minute strike, their first shot on frame of the contest. Marquette didn't trail for long, as sophomore attacker Abdoul Karim Pare found an equalizer in the 63rd minute, a right-footed strike coming on assists from Beto Soto and Edrey Caceres. Pare now holds the team lead with five goals on the year.Â
In the 72nd minute, SLU went back on top with a goal to take a 2-1 lead, and was able to remain in front the rest of the way.Â
On the night, Marquette totaled nine shots to SLU's eight, including a team-high three attempts by freshman midfielder Mitar Mitrovic. In net for the Golden Eagles, senior Chandler Hallwood tallied one save on the night while facing three shots on net.
UP NEXT: The Golden Eagles will return to BIG EAST play for the rest of the year, next facing the RV Butler Bulldogs (5-2-1, 1-0-1 BIG EAST) on Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. at Valley Fields.
