Sima-Aree tied for sixth after day one at Badger Invitational

VERONA, Wisconsin – Marquette's Bhoom Sima-Arree shot a 3-under 69 and is tied for sixth after Sunday's opening round at University Ridge Golf Course in the 2023 Badger Invitational.

Sima-Aree opened his round with an eagle on the par-five second hole and was 1-under at the turn after a birdie on the par-3 eighth. The graduate student approached the 18th tee at 4-under before a bogey to end his round on the day's final hole. He had a team-best five birdies on Sunday, while classmate Josh Robinson had four.

Robinson carded a 2-under 70 to finish one stroke behind Sima-Aree. The native of Lisburn, Northern Ireland had three birdies on his final seven holes.

As a team, the Golden Eagles are 12 out of 18 teams with a combined 3-over 291. Marquette played with Wisconsin and event-leader FGCU on Sunday. FGCU recorded a 14-under 274 and is seven strokes ahead of Middle Tennessee State heading into Monday's second round.

FGCU's Austin Cherichella had nine birdies on Sunday and is the event leader at 7-under (65).

Freshman Mason Schmidtke is tied for first through 36 holes in the Badger Invitational Individual event at TPC Wisconsin, the future site of the PGA Tour's American Family Insurance Championship in 2025. TPC Wisconsin was formerly known as Cherokee Country Club before it was rebranded in 2022. The Badger Individual featured 36 holes on Sunday and the final round is set for Monday.
