
Golf heads to NCR for Dayton Flyer Invitational

The Golden Eagles conclude their fall season in Dayton on Oct. 16-17
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team heads to Kettering, Ohio and NCR Country Club for the Dayton Flyer Invitational on Oct. 16-17 to conclude its fall campaign.Â

THE EVENTThe Golden Eagles return to the Flyer Invitational for the second time in as many years after a second-place finish at last fall's event. Teams combated weather issues throughout and Josh Robinson (72-74-73) paced Marquette in a tie for sixth place with a 6-over 219, alongside then-graduate student Tyler Leach.Â
Marquette led the field at NCR with 37 total birdies and had the lowest scoring average on par fives, playing 10-under par with an average score of 4.78. Illinois won last year's event at 29-over par (295-296-290—881).
MU is one of 13 teams in this year's field, which includes Bowling Green, Bradley, Cleveland State, DePaul, George Mason, Illinois, Illinois State, Loyola Chicago, Marshall, Miami (Ohio) and Wright State, in addition to the host University of Dayton.
The event begins Monday morning with a 8 a.m. Central time shotgun start and continuous play through 36 holes. Final round action begins at the same time Tuesday morning.Â
THE COURSE
NCR Country Club's South Course ranks among Golfweek's Top Classic Courses list (built prior to 1960) and has hosted numerous state, regional and national golf championships over the last 70 years. It will play as a par 71 at 7,006 yards for this week's tournament.Â
The course features wooded, rolling terrain, designed by famed architect Dick Wilson and has hosted the 1969 PGA Championship, won by Raymond Floyd, and the 2022 U.S. Senior Women's Open, among other events.

The Golden Eagles placed seven out of 18 teams in their last event, the Badger Invitational, at University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wisconsin with an even par 864 (291-290-283).
Graduate student Bhoom Sima-Aree led the Marquette contingent for the first time this season with a 2-under 214 (69-74-71), followed by junior Patrick Adler in a tie for 30th with an even par 216 (76-71-69). Adler recorded his first two rounds under par to close the event with a 1-under 71 and 3-under 69 over his final 36 holes. The native of Winnetka, Illinois has now recorded four rounds of par-or-better over his previous five rounds after being inserted into the MU lineup for the Gopher Invitational on Sept. 10-11 at Windsong Farm Golf Club.
Josh Robinson and Max Lyons each tied for 35th at the Badger Invitational at 1-over par and join Sima-Aree and Aidan Lafferty as the four players to appear in MU's lineup at each tournament this fall.
Lyons has shot near par during each round this season and leads the Golden Eagles with a scoring average of 71.75, or +0.25 strokes-to-par on average. Sima-Aree ranks right behind Lyons with a 71.83 scoring average.

UP NEXT: The Flyer Invitational is Marquette's final event on its fall schedule. The Golden Eagles return to action during the spring semester on Feb. 11-13, 2024 in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
