Golf leads Dayton Flyer Invitational after 36 holes

KETTERING, Ohio – The Marquette University men's golf team is tied for the lead with the University of Illinois after 36 holes in the Dayton Flyer Invitational at NCR Country Club at 9-under par.

Graduate student Josh Robinson leads the Golden Eagles in a tie for second at 6-under after firing a pair of rounds under par on Monday. He began the day with a 5-under 66, which included a team-best seven birdies, and ended Monday with a 1-under 70, including five birdies.

Bhoom Sima-Aree is Marquette's No. 2 and is tied for eighth through 36 holes. He carded a 3-under 68 in the morning and followed it up with a 1-under 70 in the afternoon.

The Golden Eagles led the field by five strokes at the conclusion of the opening round on Monday morning, but the Illini caught up with a 13-under 271 in the second round.

Final round action begins at 8 a.m. Central time on Tuesday with a shotgun start.

NCR Country Club's South Course ranks among Golfweek's Top Classic Courses list (built prior to 1960) and has hosted numerous state, regional and national golf championships over the last 70 years. It will play as a par 71 at 7,006 yards for this week's tournament.

The Golden Eagles placed second at last fall's Flyer Invitational at NCR and Josh Robinson (72-74-73) paced Marquette in a tie for sixth place with a 6-over 219.
