Golden Eagles close out three-match homestand
MILWAUKEE -Â The Marquette University men's soccer team (7-3-1, 1-2-0 BIG EAST) will close out a three-match homestand on Saturday, October 7 as the team hosts Xavier (5-3-2, 2-1-0 BIG EAST) for a 3:00 p.m. CT matchup at Valley Fields.Â
Golden Eagles On The Hunt  Â
In the last two matches for the Blue and Gold they have out-shot their opponents 34-6. Despite having a large margin in shots over their opponents the Golden Eagles have not found the back of the net in the last two matches. Â Â
MU has featured depth in the scoring column early in the season, three players have scored two goals in three matches for the Golden Eagles.Â
Marquette has made multiple changes in their lineup due to injury and a booking suspension to midfielder Mitar Mitrovic.Â
MSOC Falls to Northern Illinois 1-0
Marquette fell to NIU 1-0 on Monday evening at Valley Fields.The Golden Eagles started the game pressuring NIU looking to get their first couple shots on goal. Brooklyn Merl took the first shot of the game early in the 15th minute.
Quality shots were taken throughout the first half ending with eight total shots on goal by Marquette, but none of which could find the back of the net.

Northern Illinois took the lead in the 78th minute, after Angel Rodriguez recovered his blocked shot and shot again to find the net leaving Marquette down by one.

The Golden Eagles had multiple opportunities near the end of the game finishing with 16 shots on goal, but ultimately could not find the back of the net.
Series History
The series history between Marquette and Xavier began during the 1987 campaign. Saturday's matchup between the Golden Eagles and the Musketeers will be the 14th matchup  in program history for the two squads.
The last meeting of the two teams resulted in a 0-0 draw in Cincinnati. MU currently holds the all-time record advantage over Xavier (8-4-2).Â
