MU Earns First Ranked Win Since Defeating then No. 4 UConn Last February
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women's basketball team took down No. 23 Illinois, 71-67, on Saturday at the Al McGuire Center for an early season ranked win.
The Golden Eagles (2-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) had four players score in double figures, led by a pair of seniors in Jordan King and Liza Karlen who combined for 41 of the team's 71 points.
Marquette took the lead with 7:42 left in the second quarter and held it the rest of the way, leading by as many as 11.
King had 19 points and hit two free throws with 14 seconds left to give MU a three-point lead and added another with three seconds left to seal it. Karlen had a game-high 22 points.
Illinois was led by Camille Hobby who had 18 points and 7 rebounds. Genesis Bryant, who had a career-high 32 points in Illinois' opener, was held to 11 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
