MILWAUKEE — The Marquette University women's lacrosse team continued its program-best start to the season with a 13-12 win over Niagara at Valley Fields on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Lydia Foust posted her fifth hat trick of the year to lead the Golden Eagles (6-1), who used a three-goal run spanning the third and fourth quarter to keep NU at a distance.
Niagara (6-3) scored three goals over the final three minutes and pulled the game within one on Lexi Braniecki's third goal with just 30 seconds remaining.
Marquette was able to kill off the final 30 seconds and escape with its sixth win of the year.
NOTABLE:
- Marquette leads the all-time series against Niagara, 4-1.
- Marquette is off to its best start in program history, sitting at 6-1 through seven games.
- The Golden Eagles won 20-of-29 draws and held a 40-26 advantage in shots.
- MU entered the game boasting the nation's top scoring offense with 19.33 goals per game.
- Shea Garcia scored two goals and assisted on another. She earned a pair of second half yellow cards and sat the final 5:09 of regulation.
