Golden Eagles set program records for goals and margin of victory

MILWAUKEE — The Marquette women's lacrosse team set new program records for goals and margin of victory in a 26-4 win over Detroit Mercy on Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.Â
The Golden Eagles (4-1)Â scored the game's first eight goals and added a subsequent 6-0Â scoring run for a 14-2 lead at the half. MU tacked on eight goals in the third quarter and four in the final frame.
Lydia Foust led MU with five goals, while Tess Osburn added four and Shea Garcia posted a hat trick. Fourteen Golden Eagles scored in total and Mary Schumar increased her team lead in assists with six helpers.
The Titans (1-3) were outshot, 40-10, and had goals from four different players.
NOTABLE:
- MU's 26 scores topped its previous single-game record of 24 against Butler from April 16, 2022.
- Four of MU's top-seven scoring outputs of all-time have come in games against the Titans.
- The 22-goal margin of victory is MU's largest, besting a 17-goal victory over Butler in 2017.
- UDM's goal total of four is tied for the third-lowest opponent mark in Marquette history.
- Seven MU players recorded their first goals of the season on Sunday, including the first career scores for Taylor Kotschevar, Josie Kropp, Campbell Brown, Sayla Lotysz and Adrianna Commodari.
- The Golden Eagles entered the game leading the nation in draw controls per game with 21.50 and tallied a 21-11 advantage in the category against the Titans.
- Kropp had a season-best nine draw controls, one off her career high.
- Marquette also entered Sunday averaging 17.75 goals per game, second-best nationally. They also led the nation in shots per game (40.25) and ranked second in shots on goal per game (29.50). MU had 40 shots and 35 shots on goal on Sunday.
- With six assists on Sunday, Mary Schumar has 14 in her last two games after a career-best eight against then-No. 3 Northwestern in MU's last game. She entered Sunday's contest fourth in the nation in assists per game at 3.50.
- The Golden Eagles won last year's meeting in Detroit, 22-9. Garcia had six goals against UDM last season, while Foust scored four times.
