Golf Tied for Fourth at BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship

HARDEEVILLE, S.C. - The Marquette University men's golf team is 5-over par after the first round at the 2023 BIG EAST Men's Golf Championship Presented by JEEP. The Golden Eagles are tied for fourth heading into Saturday's second round.

Nicolás Evangelio and Max Lyons paced the Golden Eagles in the first round at Riverton Pointe Country Club with even par 72s. Evangelio made the turn at 3-under par with three birdies and no bogeys. On No. 10, he knocked his approach shot in close to make his fourth birdie of the day. Double Bogeys on holes 12 and 16 pushed him back to even par. He is tied for 10th individually.

Lyons put together a steady round, parring 14 of his 18 holes. Lyons did his damage on the back nine, birding both par-5s. After a bogey on No. 17, His birdie on No. 18 brought him back to even par. Lyons is tied with Evangelio at 10th.

MU's No. 5, Bhoom Sima-Aree rolled in back-to-back birdies to start his day. He dropped in his third birdie of the round on the par-4 16th. He surrendered four bogeys on the day to finish 1-over par (73).
