Cook, Block Claim Honors
Marquette seniors Isa Cook and Hailey Block were both named to the all-tournament team of the Milwaukee Challenge Cup after outings against Denver and Minnesota.
Easter Grabs Career High
Netminder Mikki Easter finished with a career-best eight saves in the 0-0 draw against Denver on August 24.
The Culpepper, Virginia, native owns a pair of shutouts on the season and eight for her 32-game career at Marquette. Easter twice stopped seven shots in an outing prior to the matchup with the Pioneers.
MU's Offense Off To Slow Start
Through five matches, the Marquette offensive attack is still looking to find its stride,
The Golden Eagles have netted just one goal and collected 15 shots on goal. Only Isa Cook (3), Kate Gibson (2) and Josie Bieda (2) have more than one of those attempts.
Cline Nets Winner At Colorado
Junior defender Caroline Cline touched home her second-career goal on August 20 at Colorado, giving MU just enough to earn the 1-0 victory.
Cline found herself alone at the back post in the 35th minute on a corner from Mia Heartle and Kate Gibson's quick touch at the near post rolled right to Cline's feet.
MU's Roster Features Depth
Marquette's 2023 roster features a wealth of experience, while also mixing in a group of talented newcomers.
Of the 14 players who found the back of the net in 2022, 11 are back in the rotation for fourth-year head coach Frank Pelaez. Forward Elsi Twombly led the roster in points (11) and six of the top seven overall scorers are back.
Netminders Chloe Olson and Mikki Easter combined to cover all of the team's minutes in net a season ago and the duo owns 47 career appearances.
MU's roster, which consists of 22 returning letterwinners, also features an eight-member recruiting class. Seven of the eight freshmen have already seen action for the Blue & Gold.
Marquette Picked Eighth In Poll
MU was picked to finish eighth in the 11-program BIG EAST Conference by the league's head coaches in the preseason poll.
The Golden Eagles are looking for their first league tournament appearance since the 2017 campaign. Defending champion Georgetown claimed 10 of the 11 first-place votes to earn the top spot and Xavier was selected second.
MU Facing Familiar Opponents
Marquette plays a pair of road matches this week, but won't have to travel far to face either opponent.
The Golden Eagles have faced the Panthers and Badgers a total of 45 times in program history. The series with UWM dates back to 1993 and MU first faced Wisconsin in 1995.
