MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team heads to Minnesota for its second event of the fall on Sunday, Sept. 10 and Monday, Sept. 11 in the Gopher Invitational at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minnesota.

THE EVENT
The field at the Gopher Invitational is comprised of 14 teams including Marquette, Notre Dame, Furman, Northwestern, Northern Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Miami (OH), West Virginia, Rutgers, Kent State, Utah, UNC-Wilmington, and Minnesota.Â

The event begins Sunday at 7:15 am Central time with the opening round and the second round slated to follow in the afternoon. Final round tee time off No. 1 and No. 10 on Monday at the same time.

THE COURSE
The Gopher Invitational has called Windsong Farm Golf Club home for the past 10 years. Windsong Farm is consistently rated among Minnesota's top golf courses, with additional national recognition as one of the top modern courses in the nation. Originally created by John Fought and Minnesota native Tom Lehman, the course's breathtaking views and unmatched conditions contribute to the ultimate golfing experience. Opened in 2003, Windsong measures 7,380 yards and has a par 71 layout.

The Golden Eagles placed sixth in their home event this past week, the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills. MU was two strokes behind event leader Purdue after the first day of competition but posted an 18-over 306 during a hot and humid second round on Labor Day. Junior Max Lyons led the squad with a 3-over 219, including a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's final round and an even par 72 on Sunday. He jumps to the No. 1 spot in the MU lineup ahead of graduate students Josh Robinson, Bhoom Sima-Aree and Aidan Lafferty.
Robinson was the event co-leader at Erin Hills after 18 holes with a 3-under 69 in the opening round and slots in once again in the No. 2 spot for Marquette. Lafferty found his groove after day one in the Marquette Intercollegiate to card identical 73s on Monday and Tuesday for the sixth top-20 finish of his career.
Junior Patrick Adler jumps into the MU lineup in the No. 5 spot after turning in a 7-over 223 (75-73-75) to tie for 22nd.Â
Freshmen Ryan Banas and Mason Schmidtke are set to join sophomore Will Hemauer as individuals competing at Windsong Farm. Schmidtke tied Adler at Erin Hills in his first collegiate event.
Sima-Aree, Lyons and Adler each have experience in the MU lineup at Windsong Farm with Lyons tying for 13th overall during the fall of 2021 in his freshman campaign with a 2-under 211.
