THE COURSE
Originally opened as Stone Creek Golf Club in 1999, the 18-hole course in Urbana, Illinois was given to the University of Illinois by the Atkins family in 2020 and underwent a renovation into the championship venue it is today.
The course will play as a par 71 at 7,503 yards this week.
MARQUETTE'S LINEUP
1. Max Lyons
2. Aidan Lafferty
3. Josh Robinson
4. Will Hemauer
5. Mason Schmidtke
The top three spots in the MU lineup remain the same from the last event, the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational at Forest Hills Golf Club. Lyons entered the final round in Augusta in a tie for second after opening the event at 5-under through the first 36 holes. The junior has recorded 16 rounds or par-or-better this season, including eight of his 12 rounds during the spring campaign.
Graduate students Aidan Lafferty and Josh Robinson occupy the second and third spots in the lineup. Lafferty was MU's runner-up in Augusta with a 3-over 219 and has consistently been the second or third finisher for the majority of the season. Robinson has led MU at two events, including a career-best second place finish overall in the final event of the fall season, the Dayton Flyer Invitational. He carded a 6-under 207 at that event on Oct. 16-17 at NCR Country Club in Kettering, Ohio as MU topped Illinois as a team by one stroke for the event title.
Will Hemauer jumps back into the lineup for the second time this season after impressive performances in team qualifying leading up to this week's event in Champaign. It is only the second time in his career that the Marquette University High School graduate has been part of Marquette's lineup.
UP NEXT:
The Golden Eagles head to Hardeeville, South Carolina and Riverton Pointe Golf Club for the 2024 BIG EAST Conference Men's Golf Championships, which will be held Saturday, April 27 through Monday, April 29.
