
Golf finishes 12th at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational

AUGUSTA, Georgia – The Marquette University men's golf team placed 12th with a 23-over 887 following Sunday's final round at Forest Hills Golf Club in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational presented by Valspar.
Graduate student Aidan Lafferty and freshman Mason Schmidtke each carded even-par 72s on Sunday with three birdies apiece. Lafferty entered the day in a tie for 32nd and rallied with two birdies over the final four holes on Nos. 6 and 9.
Schmidtke began the morning with consecutive birdies on 10 and 11 and four of the five players in MU's lineup notched birdies on the par-5 11th hole on Sunday.
Junior Max Lyons entered the day three strokes back of the lead in a tie for second, but struggled to a 5-over 77 on Sunday with seven bogeys. Entering this weekend, Lyons had recorded final rounds of par-or-better in six of the first eight events in 2023-24.Â
Lyons carded six birdies in a 2-under 70 opening round and followed that up with three birdies in a clean 3-under 69 second round on Saturday afternoon.
North Carolina won the team event by six strokes over Texas with a 21-under 843, while Tobias Jonsson (9-under 207) of Mercer won the individual championship and the PGA Tour exemption that comes with it.
