MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University men's golf team continues its fall campaign on Sunday, Sept. 29 and Monday, Sept. 30 at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois for the 2024 Windon Memorial Classic.
Live scoring will be available through Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
THE EVENT
The Windon Memorial Classic began in 1993 and has been a recent mainstay in Marquette's fall schedule due to its proximity to MU's Milwaukee campus, elite courses and competition. In addition to Marquette, the 16-team field includes Arizona, Augusta, East Tennessee State, Houston, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pepperdine, Purdue, South Florida, UC Davis and tournament-host Northwestern.
The Golden Eagles open play on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m shotgun start and second round play will commence after the conclusion of the first round. Marquette is paired with Purdue, Houston and UC Davis on Sunday and will head off tees 9-12.
Tuesday's third round pairings will be announced Sunday night and tee times will begin at 8 a.m. on holes one and 10.
Marquette finished ninth in the Windon Memorial last season at Sunset Ridge Country Club behind top-30 finishes by graduate students Aidan Lafferty, Bhoom Sima-Aree and Josh Robinson, all of whom finished under par through 54 holes.
Former MU All-American Hunter Eichhorn claimed co-medalist honors the last time the even was held at Conway Farms in 2019 with a 6-under 207. The then-junior shot a 6-under 65 with eight birdies and a bogey-free 5-under 66 through the first two rounds. The Golden Eagles also won the Windon Memorial as a team back in 2018 behind a third-place finish from Oliver Farrell at 7-under par. In 2007 at Lake Shore, MU All-American Mike Van Sickle shared medalist honors with a 7-under 206.
Past winners and runners-up of the tournament include Tiger Woods, Casey Martin, Luke Donald, Hunter Mahan, Scott Harington and Ben Curtis.
THE COURSE
Conway Farms Golf Club opened for play in August 1991 on the site of a former dairy farm and the Scottish links-inspired course sits on 209 acres in Lake Forest, Illinois. The award winning course from Tom Fazio took inspiration from the Old Course at St. Andrews and New York's Shinnecock Hills, and reopened in 2023 after remodeling by Tim Jackson and David Kahn in 2021 and 2022.
The course has hosted numerous BMW Championships on the PGA Tour and NCAA events, including the Windon Memorial Classic. The club is dedicated to the protection and preservation of the game and strong support of amateur golf.
The course will play this week as a par 71 at a total of 7,432 yards.
