
Baird 'Blue & Gold' Student-Athlete: Lukas Sunesson

Sunesson graduated in December and will play as a graduate student in the fall of 2022
MILWAUKEE - Men's soccer player Lukas Sunesson is the Baird Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for January 2022, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Student Programs staff.
Sunesson earned his undergraduate bachelor's of science this fall from the College of Business Administration, with double majors in operations & supply chain, and international business. He is currently pursuing his MBA, to be completed in December 2022.
The native of Taby, Sweden, works with Swedish for Professionals, in interpreting and teaching Swedish language to and for business professionals. He is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honor society for business students, and a 2020-21 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-American. He also has earned Dean's List, AD Honor Roll, and BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors.
He is a mentor with the MAGIS Mentor program, matched with an incoming high-achieving freshman to help guide balancing rigorous academics with training and competition in BIG EAST athletics. He has also volunteered with the campus International office as a resource for other international students.
On the pitch, Sunesson is one of Marquette's most decorated men's soccer players. He is a two-time All-BIG EAST striker and was MU's first MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in the spring of 2021, while earning second team All-America distinction from the United Soccer Coaches. He posted six goals in both the spring and fall seasons in 2021 and will return for his fifth season in the fall of 2022 with 20 career goals and six match winners.
