'Blue & Gold' Student-Athlete: Emily Capper

The senior distance runner is a Burke Scholar
MILWAUKEE - Senior distance runner Emily Capper is the Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for September 2024, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Student Programs staff.
Capper is a senior on the women's cross country and track & field teams who majors in digital media, with a minor in journalism. She has earned Dean's List, Athletic Director's Honor Roll every semester, BIG EAST Conference All-Academic Team accolades each year, and is a member of Chi Alpha Sigma (honor society for collegiate athletes). She has been a teaching assistant for videography courses in the Diederich College of Communications and is the cross country team's representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Capper is a Burke Scholar, with a scholarship attached to community service and volunteerism. She is an Our Next Generation tutor in a high school program on Milwaukee's north side, and currently coaches high school cross country at St Augustine Prep Academy in Milwaukee. She has also served as an Upward Bound residential advisor and tutor (lived on campus with high school students in a Marquette program). During the 2022-23 academic year, she was team manager for the women's basketball program,and works as a WIAA (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletics Association) basketball referee throughout the Milwaukee/SE WI area
