Junior javelin thrower is a civil engineering major
MILWAUKEE – Marquette University track & field student-athlete Tessa Hollander is the Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for August, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Programs staff.
Hollander is a civil engineering major and has been on Dean's List in the College of Engineering, AD Honor Roll, and earned Big East Academic Honors every semester at Marquette. In addition to her studies, Tessa is active in 'Student-Made Marquette', which is part of a nationwide group of small business owners and creators across different campuses. The organization provides promotion, guidance and exposure for student business owners on campuses. Hollander is engaged with them in promoting student entrepreneurs across other campuses as well.
Her business, Tailor-Made by Tessa, is handmade unique custom footwear. She partners with customers to create one-of-a-kind design ideas that she hand-paints on shoes. Her website and Instagram feature her designs, including custom shoes for Stevie Mitchell and Kam Jones that reflect on their careers at Marquette.
The Lynden, Washington native competed in eight events in the javelin throw for Marquette in 2024-25. Hollander recorded the second-best throw in program history at 42.32-meters at the Badger Challenge in May. She finished fifth at the 2025 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.
