
'Blue & Gold' Student-Athlete: Juru Okwaramoi

Okwaramoi is an All-BIG EAST Academic Team member and hurdler
MILWAUKEE - Women's track and field team captain Juru Okwaramoi is the Blue & Gold Student-Athlete of the Month for February 2023, as chosen by Marquette Athletics' Academics and Student Programs staff.
Okwaramoi is a senior majoring in psychology with minors in biological sciences and chemistry. She is a SAAC representative for her team and is on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion subcommittee. In addition, she is actively involved in SHAPE (Student Health Allies & Peer Educators) the peer mental health and wellness group, and the faith-based group in athletics. She was a peer leader in Orientation, a peer tutor for the Educational Opportunity Program, and is actively involved with Midnight Run serving meals in the community.
Okwaramoi has earned Dean's List, Athletics Director's Honor Roll and BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors throughout her Marquette career. She is inducted into Chi Alpha Sigma, the honor society for collegiate athletes. This semester, she is as a teaching assistant for the BIOL1002 course where she leads discussion sections of freshman biology students. She will graduate in May, with honors, and will take a gap year working in the medical field before starting medical school in fall of 2024. She is fluent in both in English and Arabic.
The native of Urbandale, Iowa is a sprinter and hurdler and was an All-BIG EAST performer in 2021 at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships in the 400-meter hurdles.
